BUCS is back with a bang
On the first BUCS week of 2019 with all teams in action, Bristol had a great round of results, with try bonus points being picked up in all games.
The 1st XV came up against promotion rivals USW, and pulled off a narrow victory 24-20. Mac Dale was a standout from the wing, whilst it was a fitting send off for our Australian exchange player Hugh Summerhayes. Go well Wolverine, and hopefully see you back soon!
The 2nd XV continued their stellar run of form, thrashing Swansea 64-35 away from home. Under skipper Dan McNamara, the 2s played some champagne rugby, and are set up well for their cup quarter final next week against Exeter.
The 3rd XV put out one of their best performances of the season in a narrow loss to Exeter 30-22. Defence was strong throughout, whilst in attack, the structure and frame system practiced all season was finally paying off, with Rory Carroll grabbing a hat-trick. Unfortunately, the set piece didn't fire as well as it has done previously, and this, combined with injuries to both centres, ultimately cost the boys the game.
The 4th XV hammered Bath Spa 62-5, as they look to wrap up second place in the league, and set themselves up for promotion next year. Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of this performance was the debut of freshmen Sam Quinn and Guy Collins, demonstrating the clear pathways for progression from our fresh 2s development team into the BUCS squads.
Attentions are on the cup next week, with the 2s and 3s both in action against Exeter and Swansea respectively. The 1st XV are also in action in a league game against Hartpury away from home, whilst the 4s have a week off.
