3rd XV bounce back at home; narrow losses away
The 3rd XV put out a great performance to bring their October set of BUCS fixtures to a close, getting a bonus point win over Gloucestershire 36-0 at home. After a disappointing game the week before, the lads took responsibility in the week and put out arguably their best display of the season.
Away from home, the 1st and 2nd XV both travelled over the bridge to Cardiff and USW respectively, and true to form, the weather was dire, hindering the UBRFC open and free-flowing style of play, which resulted in two narrow losses.
The 2nd XV were the early kick off against Cardiff, and were 12-0 up at half time with tries from Duncan Darling and Fergus Wood. However, in the second half, the performance was flat from the lads with the set-piece failing to fire, and they ended up narrowly losing 14-12.
The 1st XV were under the lights at Pontypridd RFC, and like the 2nds, were ahead to start with. However, USW scored just before half time to make it 5-3 at the break, and the 1st XV were pinned back in their own half for the majority of the second 40. Bertie Cole-Fontayn and Joe Moore both put in big shifts, and can consider themselves unlucky to be on the losing side, eventually going down 10-3.
Looking ahead to next week, the 1sts play Hartpury back at Dingle looking to continue their unbeaten run at home. The 2nds and 3rds both have a week off, whilst the 4ths, fresh off the back of a walkover over Carmarthen, kick off their cup run against Exeter on the 4G at Coombe Dingle.
