The best way to keep up to date with University of Bristol RFC

BUCS Trophy 7s

2 months ago By Alex Brown

UBWRFC do the club proud again, with UBRFC continuing to learn lessons about the standards of Super Rugby

On Wednesday (2nd May), both UBRFC and our female counterparts, UBWRFC, featured in the BUCS Trophy 7s up at West Park Leeds RUFC. Despite early starts for the boys, every Bristol player was looking forward to a day of sevens in surprisingly good weather!

UBWRFC were the team of the day from a Bristol perspective. Continuing where they left off last week in the Championship 7s, they again reached the quarter-finals but were unlucky to be knocked out at the same stage as last week. Nevertheless, they have cemented themselves as a fixture on the sevens circuit now, and as Head of Performance Sport, Matt Paine, said, it is fantastic to see this club continue to grow and develop further, particularly on the back of their victory in the BUCS Vase this season.

As for UBRFC, the boys can be exceptionally proud of themselves for their efforts today. Despite putting out a pre-dominantly first-year team cobbled together from the remnants of an injury-stricken club, they showed a lot of heart in losses against quality opposition. A lot of lessons have been learnt ahead of next year, and performances over the last 8 days in these sevens competitions has continued to build the enthusiasm within the club ahead of our pre-season in August.
